Os escritos de Ellen Gould White: manipulação mental, controle comportamental e veneração do líder

Abstract

Esta pesquisa propõe-se a analisar visões de mundo em torno da espiritualidade e suas relações com o mundo. Explorarei através dos caminhos antropológicos propostos por Jack David Eller, as visões religiosas que consideram o mundo, o prazer, o cotidiano, a arte a beleza como inimigos a serem combatidos por uma ascética rígida e inflexível. Para tanto, focarei tematicamente - como tipo repre-sentativo – os discursos de Ellen G White. Neste caso, pesquisarei a base “teóri-ca” que circunda este discurso e que permite reger as comunidades que seguem a liderança carismática que (in)forma o movimento em questão. Tal suporte, re-colheremos das análises dos antropólogos Charles Lindholm, Emerson Giumbel-li e do filósofo da educação Jean Lauand, que possibilitam a compreensão em contexto mais amplo de propostas como de Ellen Gould White.

This research intends to analyze worldviews around spirituality and its relations with the world. I will explore through the anthropological paths proposed by Jack David Eller, the religious views that regard the world, pleasure, daily life, art and beauty as enemies to be fought by rigid and inflexible ascetics. To do so, I will thematically focus - as a representative type - the speeches of Ellen G. White. In this case, I will investigate the "theoretical" basis that surrounds this discourse and that allows to govern the communities that follow the charismatic leadership that (in) form the movement or cult in question. Such support, we will gather from the analyzes of the anthropologists Charles Lindholm, Emerson Giumbelli and the philosopher of education Jean Lauand, that allow the com-prehension in broader context of proposals as of Ellen Gould White.
