O debate público promovido pela Jovem Pan sobre ações do STF envolvendo liberdade de expressão e de imprensa: análises do campo midiático da extrema direita

Abstract

O presente trabalho analisa as ações do Supremo Tribunal Federal (STF) que, historicamente, repercutiram nos meios de comunicação brasileiros, envolvendo a liberdade de expressão e de imprensa, desde casos emblemáticos até acontecimentos mais recentes. A pesquisa parte de episódios como a censura imposta por quase dez anos aos jornais O Estadão e Folha de S.Paulo, bem como à Revista Crusoé e ao site O Antagonista — acusados de divulgar notícias falsas contra o ex-presidente do STF, Dias Toffoli —, avançando para contextos contemporâneos, como o debate em torno da PL das Fake News e a atualização do artigo 19 do Marco Civil da Internet, gerando a regulação das redes sociais após a empresa Meta se manifestar, no início de 2025, acerca do encerramento de seu programa de verificação de fatos. As manifestações e ações do STF nesses casos repercutiram negativamente em parcelas da sociedade, efeito potencializado pela cobertura midiática da emissora Jovem Pan. O principal objetivo da pesquisa é analisar a cobertura do programa de maior audiência da emissora paulistana, Os Pingos nos Is, que passou a caracterizar o Supremo Tribunal Federal como responsável por constantes interferências na liberdade de expressão, contribuindo para a consolidação desse veículo como meio midiático hegemônico no campo da direita brasileira. A metodologia adotada é de natureza qualitativa, com análise de 160 edições do programa, visando compreender profundamente o fenômeno estudado. Os resultados evidenciam a construção discursiva adotada por esse campo midiático, o período de maior hegemonia política da emissora e o posterior declínio de sua audiência junto a esse segmento da sociedade. As edições analisadas abrangem o período de 2017 e 2025, contemplando duas eleições presidenciais, com o intuito de verificar se o posicionamento crítico da Jovem Pan em ralação ao STF está condicionado aos julgamentos envolvendo a própria emissora. Por fim, outro fenômeno apontado nesta pesquisa é que, após a perda de hegemonia midiática da Jovem Pan no campo da extrema direita, especialmente após as eleições presidenciais de 2022, esse grupo político se reorganizou e elegeu um novo referencial de comunicação com o seu público: a Revista Oeste.This study analyzes the actions of the Brazilian Supreme Federal Court (STF) that have historically resonated in Brazilian media, involving issues of freedom of expression and freedom of the press, from emblematic cases to more recent developments. The research examines episodes such as the nearly ten-year censorship imposed on the newspapers O Estadão and Folha de S.Paulo, as well as on Revista Crusoé and the website O Antagonista — accused of disseminating false news against the former president of the STF, Dias Toffoli — and advances to contemporary contexts, such as the debate surrounding the Fake News Bill and the update of Article 19 of the Brazilian Civil Rights Framework for the Internet, which led to the regulation of social media following Meta’s announcement, in early 2025, regarding the termination of its fact-checking program. The statements and actions of the STF in these cases had negative repercussions among segments of society, an effect amplified by the media coverage of the broadcaster Jovem Pan. The main objective of this research is to analyze the coverage of Os Pingos nos Is, the highest-rated program of the São Paulo-based broadcaster, which came to portray the Supreme Federal Court as responsible for constant interference in freedom of expression, contributing to the temporary consolidation of this outlet as an hegemonic media force within the Brazilian right-wing field. The methodology adopted is qualitative in nature, involving the analysis of 160 editions of the program, with the aim of achieving an in-depth understanding of the phenomenon under study. The results reveal the discursive construction adopted by this media field, the period of the broadcaster’s greatest political hegemony, and the subsequent decline in its audience within this segment of society. The analyzed editions cover the period from 2017 to 2025, encompassing two presidential elections, in order to verify whether Jovem Pan’s critical stance toward the STF is conditioned by judicial cases involving the broadcaster itself. Finally, the study indicates that, following the loss of Jovem Pan’s media hegemony within the far-right field, particularly after the 2022 presidential elections, this political group reorganized and selected a new communication reference for its audience: Revista Oeste.
