Brazil has 54.9% of its population made up of black and brown individuals, according to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, IBGE. However, a large part of the Brazilian population is not able to have a clear perception of the small percentage representation of blacks in the Brazilian media, since this numerical evidence is not clear through television communication. This media tool has the main objective of bringing communication, education and culture to Brazilian homes (Item 1 and 2 of Article 221 of the 1988 Federal Constitution). This dissertation has the general objective of verifying how the absence of television media representation, in the segment of Globo TV soap operas broadcast at 7:00 pm, can impact the construction of the black student's subjectivity. As specific objectives we intend, (i) To know and study concepts / definitions of subjectivity, prejudice, stigma, stereotypes seeking to understand their effects on students, (ii) Presenting 7 pm soap operas from Rede Globo of television as media examples of maintaining social stereotypes and cultural, (iii) Examine how the media can affect the construction of subjectivity of black students in their perspective as subjects, considering that their racial social group has little media representation; (iv) Understand how school education can contribute so that the student can break this barrier, leveraging the subject potential. The corpus of this research is the soap operas: Deus salve o rei, O tempo não para and Verão 90. We use the bibliographic research methodology, from books and articles referring to the fields of television media communication and Education, seeking an equalization that results in an appropriate approach to our research problem. We consider as a theoretical framework Morin (2005) and Taylor (2000) in the scope of Education, and Barbero (2008), Araújo (2000) and Sodré (1999) in the follow-up of telenovelas. This work was carried out with the support of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel - Brazil (CAPES).
