Para tanto, nos debruçamos sobre a IURD, analisando sua identidade, memória e como essa Igreja se relaciona com os sonhos dos brasileiros. A IURD é um fenômeno de crescimento no Brasil, e entender a construção da sua identidade é dar um passo na compreensão do tipo de religiosidade que ela representa e da adesão dos sujeitos a essa Igreja. Por trás do processo de construção da identidade iurdiana está uma memória de curta duração, que reúne diversas “correntes de memórias”, ou ainda, fragmentos de memórias advindas de outros grupos em torno de seu culto. A cooptação e fragmentação da memória pode ser analisada a partir de uma análise da Fazenda Nova Canaã, que nos mostra as implicações e conseqüências desse processo. Construída com elementos milenaristas, com desdobramentos na mídia e na política, a Fazenda se coloca como a resposta aos sonhos das pessoas. Serve como amostra de como a IURD se relaciona com os sonhos e os anseios dos indivíduos. De como ela se coloca como mediadora entre a felicidade a realidade dura.Having as its basis modernity and its consequences, this research analyzes the relationship religious institution – social dynamics and its manifestation especially in new religious groups, and does so based on an analysis of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (IURD). As such, the research is inclined toward an analysis of the identity and memory of the IURD, and how this church is related to the dreams of Brazilians. The IURD is a phenomenon of rapid growth in Brazil, and understanding the construction of its identity is a step toward comprehending the type of religiosity that it represents and the adhesion of persons to the Church. The foundation of the identity of the IURD, and consequently the function of worship, is based on recent memory that does not prioritize a message to be transmitted, but an experienced to be lived. Another characteristic of its memory is an uniting of diverse fragments of memories from other groups that functions as a “chain of memories” that link the IURD to its religious subjects. The cooptation and fragmentation of memory can be seen based on an analysis of worship in the church, where elements of diverse groups are reinterpreted in such a way that gives meaning to worship in the IURD. The Fazenda Nova Canãa (New Canaan Farm) shows us the implications and consequences of how the IURD relates itself to the dreams and hopes of persons. Constructed with milenaristic elements and techniques adopted from the mass media and politics, the Fazenda is offered as an answer to personal dreams.
