The imbrications between neoliberal ideology and management culture frame our research on the concept of meritocracy, whose proposal is to identify and analyze how the construction of opinions and the generation of meanings are established to disseminate principles and values intrinsic to neoliberalism. The research seeks to recognize the lexicon that underlies neoliberal ideology, as well as verify the mechanisms used to create the cultural broth that normalizes rules and supports their internalization by individuals and by society. In addition to a bibliographical survey, our study involved content analysis, according to Laurence Bardin, from a corpus composed of 236 news articles published between 2008 and 2019 by the Exame.com portal, the main economic and business vehicle in Brazil. The selection was made based on the keyword meritocracy. The theoretical structure includes authors such as Pierre Dardot, Christian Laval, Ricardo Antunes, Roseli Figaro and Marilena Chaui, with their competent discourse theory.
